今次の第2回日韓豪会議は、ソウル大学国際大学院とオーストリア国立大学国際関係学部との共催で開催された。アメリカの相対的低下という情勢を背景に、国家間の協力像が問われている。先進工業国間の経済的相互依存や制度的協力などが議論されているが、実際、東アジアはどうであろうか。このような問題意識に基づき、会議の趣旨は、アメリカ覇権後の東アジア協力について、ミドルパワー協力という概念を用いて議論することであった。上述した問題意識から踏み込んだ議論をすると、会議の最重要なテーマは中国との共存論理の模索でもある。中国が浮上し、東アジア情勢が変動して行く中で日韓豪はいかなることができるのか。会議では、個別国家による反中政策ではなく、日韓豪ミドルパワーネットワークによる対中関与について活発な議論が展開された。
